Gear Up For Giants Football

SOS: First Half Thoughts

New York Giants v New Orleans Saints

Just want to jot down a couple thoughts after the first half:

  • Bill Sheridan came into this game with a terrible defensive game plan. In the first half the Giants relied on a four man rush and dropped everyone else into coverage. As a consequence, Drew Brees has had all the time in the universe to throw and has completely picked apart the secondary. If the Giants want to get back into this game Sheridan is going to have to grow a pair, summon his inner Spagnuolo, and bring some linebacker and secondary pressure on the Saints.
  • As good as the Giants defensive front four is, the Saints O-line has been fantastic. So far they’re the MVP of this game for keeping Brees so well protected.
  • The Giants offense is playing fine. Coughlin might catch some flak for not running the clock out after that goal-line stand but I think it was the right call. The Saints offense was unstoppable in the first half and the Giants needed some points. It’s unfortunate that Eli ended up turning the ball over, which resulted in another Saints touchdown; but it’s important that the Giants stay aggressive.
  • It’s great to see Dominik Hixon returning kicks again. He’s making big plays and really helping this team stay fired up after being abused defensively.

The Giants have their work cut out for them in the second half. Lets see if they can get some stops.
